I decided to learn to cook as a student. My first year was spent living on cheap processed food but by my second I decided enough was enough so looked at the back of jars of pasta sauces to try and figure out how to make them myself (surprisingly I never did manage to source xantham gum!!) Now I have a family with voracious appetites and read cookbooks for pleasure. I love every part of the process from opening the book to watching people eat the dish. I'd love the chance to learn more please!!

This dish is one that my aunt had in a parisian restaurant years ago, asked the chef for the recipe and then passed it along to the hoardes of us who asked. Steam peeled potatoes till nearly cooked then allow to cool before cutting in 1/2cm slices. Butter a casserole dish then layer as follows-layer of potato slices, crushed clove of garlic, smoked salmon slices, seasoning. Finish with layer of potato. Pour cream over top till halfway up side of dish and put in preheated oven till golden brown.

Going to use this recipe for my Seafood Christmas Dinner!

Looks absolutely delicious...think I'll cook this dish (smoked salmon gratin) as my fish option for Christmas dinner...I'd say there'll be plenty of turkey leftovers with this dish as an alternative!!!
