Dublin You have 500 characters to tell us why you should win Cheffactor:
I should win cheffactor because I am all about food, eating, preparing, growing, buying, cooking, baking, planning meals, reading cookbooks, reading food blogs, watching food programs & constantly talking about food. I grew up on a dairy farm in Wicklow and make cheese with the raw milk, bake with the apples & pears from the garden and the farm fresh eggs. Its about time all the this love and constant thinking and talking about food was put to some use and I had some skills to back it all up!!
You have 500 characters to tell us about your dish:
My dish is an Irish Autumn Cheeseboard, which goes perfectly with a glass of red wine. I made the cheeses myself with raw milk from my parent's dairy farm, the paler colour cheese at the back was made this morning and will be perfect for eating in 12 weeks, the cheese to the front is 6 weeks old. The apples and pear are from our garden and thin slices are the perfect partner to my cheese, serve this on top of homemade brown bread (using my Granny's recipe)for a really delicious lite snack.

Great entry deserves to win. Good Luck
Sounds like the perfect evening snack, just yummy
this entry looks fab!!!!!!
WOW that sounds FANTASTIC and YUMMERS ....best of luck
What does Granny use in her bread, buttermilk or sour milk?
Granny would have always used sour milk, however for the bread in the photo here I used whey from the cheesemaking.
The whey is fat free (as all the fat is in the cheese) and leaves the bread lovely and light with an almost springy consistency.
Thanks for your vote
best of luck, You're a busy lady. Is this cheese on sale anywhere?
Hi there, no the cheese is not on sale. I make it just for family and friends at the moment. But who knows where this all could lead
Thanks for the votes

Wow this sounds like really good stuff! Very Irish and tasty!!
Good Luck from Cherrybrook, Avoca
Hi SJ,I would love to see/taste your cheese.I manage the cheese room in Avoca in Rathcoole,Co Dublin.
Sounds like just our kind of thing!Local raw milk from Wicklow pasture made into a lovely looking cheese!Always great to get local Artisan cheeses into the climate controlled cheese room.I try to promote them as much as I can.Knowing how much milk goes into cheese production and hard work from then on in, the maturation process is a labour of love and then finally tasting your creation when ready its certainly an epic journey! The very best of luck with the competition. The apple/cheese pairing is a match made in heaven and the whey in the brown bread is a perfect re-cycle re-use philosophy.
Thank you everyone for the votes and lovely comments,

Homemade and Irish - yes please!!!!!
Cheese is the ultimate Irish slow food! Its great to see that Sarah-Jane is one of our growing number of farmhouse Irish cheese producers, even if her friends and family are the only current beneficiaries. Hopefully in time, with the encouragement and VOTES she gets herd she will be able to share her love of great food and her use of quality local ingredients with a wider appreciative audience. If Sarah-Jane wants any new friends to try out her delicious cheese board I'll be first in line.
Good luck Sarah-Jane. Say 'Cheese' and keep on smiling.

Bringing us back to real life, Irish life, pre celtic tiger. (Apart from the vino of course - some celtic tiger traditions should be retained!) Full marks for using good wholesome local indigenous foods. Hope you win.

If anyone would like to see an interview with the farmer who supplied the Raw Milk (my dad!) check out page 3 of the J3 supplement of today's Irish Farmer's Journal. Its all about feeding and care of the cows ... I'm as proud as punch of himself and my mam #superfarmers!!

Heh Heh, the granny who gave you the brown bread recipe was as proud of the Master farmer as if he was her own! She'd be cutting that paper to shreds today to keep for show time. Well done you keeping up the family standards! Hope Ballymaloe are keeping the bed warm for ya.
