Just got the results for my exams on Friday:

Herb & Salad Leaf Identification 97% - I got all the herbs & the names of 2 recipes for each right but got 3 of the salad leaves wrong. I'm not too worried about this!

Technique exam 91% - I jointed the chicken a little awkwardly & I should have sharpened my knife before I started (I had done this in the house before I left) so marks taken off for this.

So Im quite happy with that anyway!

Anyway another day today where I was doing 2 things that really needed to be done first so a bit of a juggling act trying to get my Steak & Mushroom Pie into the oven & also make & knead my Butter & Milk dough so I could leave it to rise for an hour & a half.

First I prepared the meat & onions for the pie. Then made the dough for the bread & kneaded for 10 mins (with help from my teacher!). Then back to the pie - browned the onions, then the meat & deglazed the pan with stock. Whacked it in the oven with some herbs & left to cook slowly.

Next I sauted some mushrooms - which took ages because you cant overcrowd the pan. Meanwhile I gathered my veg for a Root Vegetable Mash - Carrots, Jerusalem Artichokes, Turnip & Celeriac.

My dough had doubled in size (thanks to the help of the warming press) so I kneaded it again for a few mins & then shaped it into 2 big lovely loaves. Then left to rest again for 15 mins - slit 3 times on the top & then left for another 15 mins. Then baked for 35mins. This is the best bread Ive made so far - yum, yum!

I finished off my mushrooms & added to the pie filling. I prepared my root veg and got them cooking. Then cut out my pastry and cooked this in the oven seperately as my pie filling would be too hot to cook the pastry on top. Mashed the veg - added butter, salt, pepper & parsley.
